St. Joseph Orphanage Home, Ichi, is a ministry of The Holy Family Sisters of the Needy dedicated to caring for Children in need and providing them with Loving, safe, and nurturing environment. Inspired by the compassion of Christ and the charism of the our congregation, we strive to restore hope, dignity, and a sense of belonging to every child entrusted to our care.
Our mission is to provide holistic care that promotes the physical, Educational, emotional, spiritual, and social development of vulnerable children, enabling them to grow into responsible and productive members of society.
OUR HISTORY
St. Joseph Orphanage Home, living with community children in Need, originated as an extension of St. Joseph's Home for physically and Mentally challenged children located at 10Niger Street, Fegge, Onitsha.
The Home was established in 2012 following the decision of the institute's authority to provide specialized care for healthy children separately from physically and mentally challenged children. This decision enabled both apostolates to flourish according to their unique needs and objectives.
In 2016, the children were relocated to Nnewi, where a more spacious accommodation was secured with the approval and support of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi under the Leadership of most Rev. Dr. Odili Hillary Okeke, Bishop Emeritus, and the assistance of very Rev .Fr. Onyeka Chukwu ,now Monsignor
As the Home continued to grow, the need for a safer and more peaceful environment . After careful discernment and deliberation by the institute authority, St. Joseph Orphanage Home was relocated to its present location in Ichi on 5th August 2025. Today, the Home continues its mission of providing care , protection, education, and hope for children in need while fostering a family atmosphere rooted in Love, faith, and respect for human dignity.
